Navigating Student Discipline in Career-Technical Education Programs
CTE ExpansionStudent discipline looks different when students are operating heavy equipment, earning industry credentials, participating in work-based learning, and learning in environments designed to mirror the workplace. This session examines the unique discipline issues facing career-technical schools and programs, including safety concerns, due process, home district and employer partnerships, and off-campus conduct. Through practical examples and recent legal developments, attendees will gain tools to make sound, defensible discipline decisions while supporting student success.

Business Presentation | Buckeye Educational Systems | Preparing Future Industrial Technicians for Workforce Readiness
This presentation will highlight how Columbus City Schools is preparing the next generation of industrial technicians with the technical skills, industry-recognized credentials, and hands-on experience needed to succeed in today’s advanced manufacturing workforce. Attendees will explore how the Amatrol Industry 4.0 curriculum and training systems, combined with SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) stackable credentials, create a pathway that connects classroom learning to real-world careers. The session will showcase how students develop skills in automation, robotics, electrical systems, pneumatics, smart manufacturing, industrial controls, and Industry 4.0 technologies while earning credentials that validate their workforce readiness. It will also demonstrate how Columbus City Schools is building stronger connections between education, industry, postsecondary opportunities, and high-demand manufacturing careers—creating a sustainable talent pipeline for the future workforce.

School-to-Work Strategies & Opportunities
WBLWe are excited for the opportunity to share our innovative, student-centered approach to guiding and supporting students through work-based learning experiences at Miami Valley CTC. We will share practical strategies and systems we have implemented to help students succeed while also strengthening relationships with employers. Topics will include using Performance Improvement Plans with students as a tool to turn difficult workplace experiences into opportunities for growth and accountability, School-to-Work hybrid academics course offering to better support students balancing school and work, as well as our Employer Tuesday/Thursday events to connect students and employers. The goal of the presentation is to share what has worked for us, lessons we have learned along the way, and practical ideas that other schools and career centers can take back and adapt to their own work-based learning programs.
